Reader’s Question:

I am only 19 and I have a provisional permit. My question is: Can I operate a vehicle without any adult supervision in Gresham, Oregon?

Mark

Gresham, OR

In most states if your are 18 or over and have a learner’s or provisional permit the restrictions are less than if you are under eighteen. For instance, in Maryland upon becoming eighteen a provisional license holder is no longer bound by time restrictions and may operate a vehicle at any hour.

In Gresham Oregon provisional licensed or permitted motorists have restrictions on them, including being required to be accompanied by a licensed motorist who is at least twenty five years old. But the restrictions only apply until you are eighteen or you have had your provisional license for a year; whichever comes first.

Verify with the Department of Motor Vehicle before driving without supervision in case your state still requires you to have an older licensed driver with you during this phase of the graduated licensing process.
