Reader’s Question:

I am applying for a new vehicle insurance here in Portland. Aside from the model of my car, what other factors will affect my application?

Clyde

Portland, OR

Car insurance companies Oregon will look into various things in rating your application and deciding your vehicle insurance premiums. First, these companies will grade your driving history. If you are a defensive driver who has been involved in a minimal number of car accidents and collisions, then you stand a good chance of being rated as low risk by any car insurance company Oregon.

You will also be rated according to your personal profile. Most car insurance companies Oregon tend to rate older drivers as high risk compared to younger drivers. If you have physical disabilities like blurred vision, then you might have to deal with higher insurance premiums.

Another thing that will be considered is your vehicle itself. If your vehicle has a high annual mileage, then car insurance companies Oregon will most likely rate it as high risk. The same goes if your vehicle lacks the necessary security equipments such as immobilizers, good brake system, and advanced lock system.

Try to address these factors and you will surely deal with cheaper car insurance premiums from any Oregon auto insurance company

Reader’s Question:

What cars are exempt from the mandatory insurance requirement? I live in Gresham, OR. Can you please update me with Oregon auto insurance laws?

Tyrone

Gresham, OR

State laws differ so you will need to check with your state’s Department of Motor Vehicle agency, or similar entity. The state of Oregon should have a list of cars that are exempt from your state’s mandatory insurance requirement laws.

In Oregon there are certain cars, such as antique motor vehicles, farm tractors, farm trailers, motor assisted scooters, snowmobiles, mobility devices, and all-terrain vehicles, which are exempt from the mandatory insurance requirements.

Remember if you take the car that is exempt from auto insurance in your state to a different state to check their laws since mandatory insurance laws do very between states.
