Q: Is there some way to get out of paying for Medford OR SR22 insurance?

A: Unfortunately, there is only one way to get out of your Medford SR22 payments, and for most people it’s neither an easy nor a desirable way out. If you don’t want to pay for insurance costs, then you will have to allow for an SR-26 of cancellation to be filed and your driver’s license suspended. But instead of only having to wait three years to get out of SR22, if you aren’t filing then you have to wait five, and during that time you won’t be able to drive because you won’t have a license.

You also have to remember that even if you don’t have a license and won’t be driving your car, so long as you own it, you are required to have insurance on it. Even many broken down cars must be insured. So, while by cancelling your car insurance coverage you may be saving money on insurance, you won’t be saving enough to account for the sacrifices you will have to make in finding other means of transportation and avoiding ever getting behind a wheel and so on. Now, if you choose to sell your car, then cancelling your Medford SR22 coverage could be a viable choice, but only if you have other options for transportation. If you cancel and change your mind, remember you’ll have to pay all kinds of reinstatement fees.
