Q: My Corvallis OR SR22 insurance premium costs a big chunk of my income but I barely need it because I don’t drive my car except for around once a week. Is there something I can do to make my car insurance prices a little close to my uses?

A: Since you drive your car very rarely, you can call your Corvallis SR22 insurance company and ask them if they have a low mileage discounts available. Almost every company does, and I could probably say that all of them do. A low mileage discount is a certain percentage, typically around ten percent, which is taken off of your car insurance premium if you qualify as someone who drives very rarely. Each company will have it’s own way of qualifying what it means by low mileage, but there are two very common measurements.

  • Some companies say that low mileage is driving five thousand miles or less every year;
  • other companies say that low mileage is driving forty miles or less every day.

You might see the numbers fluctuate a bit, but generally they will be right at those amounts or not very far from them, so check your odometer before you waste your time.
