I am applying for a new vehicle insurance here in Portland. Aside from the model of my car, what other factors will affect my application?

Clyde

Portland, OR

Car insurance companies Oregon will look into various things in rating your application and deciding your vehicle insurance premiums. First, these companies will grade your driving history. If you are a defensive driver who has been involved in a minimal number of car accidents and collisions, then you stand a good chance of being rated as low risk by any car insurance company Oregon.

You will also be rated according to your personal profile. Most car insurance companies Oregon tend to rate older drivers as high risk compared to younger drivers. If you have physical disabilities like blurred vision, then you might have to deal with higher insurance premiums.

Another thing that will be considered is your vehicle itself. If your vehicle has a high annual mileage, then car insurance companies Oregon will most likely rate it as high risk. The same goes if your vehicle lacks the necessary security equipments such as immobilizers, good brake system, and advanced lock system.

Try to address these factors and you will surely deal with cheaper car insurance premiums from any Oregon auto insurance company

Reader’s Question:

I’m new here in Oregon and am planning to buy my first car here. What are the car insurance requirements in this state?

Allen

Bend, OR

Every state in America, and Oregon is included, have financial responsibility laws in place. This is to safeguard anybody from financial difficulty if an unfortunate car accident happens. Residents in Oregon comply with this financial responsibility law by obtaining adequate car insurance coverage. The State of Oregon mandates that every motorist acquire at least the minimum liability coverage of 25/50/10. These numbers stand for twenty-five thousand dollars to pay for bodily injuries to one person, fifty thousand dollars maximum for bodily injury for all persons involved in the accident, and ten thousand for wrecked property, including but not limited to public property and the other driver’s car.

Oregon observes the tort system which means that if a driver is found to be responsible for the mishap, then his or her car insurance company will pay for the damages. However, an alarming twelve percent of Oregon’s total motorist population is uninsured. That is why it is wise to obtain the uninsured motorist insurance, though it is not a requirement in this state. This car insurance will pay for the insured’s medical costs following an accident caused by a driver without any coverage of any sort. Strongly recommended although not required to obtain is the collision and comprehensive insurance. This will assist in paying for the insured’s car repairs.

Can you provide some tips on how I can get the best auto insurance in Oregon?

Marty

Portland OR

Getting the best vehicle insurance in Oregon means shopping for the right policy from the right insurer. You have to have a list of all the insurance companies in your area since you will need to compare their offers before deciding on which one is the best vehicle insurance in Oregon. Request for quotes from all of these insurance companies so that will you get an idea which ones are offering the lowest insurance in your area. Once you have ranked them based on their prices, you can then inquire about their services from people you know.

Getting feedback from their clients will help you decide if they will be able to serve you well. Draw up another list based on each of the company’s reputation. From the two lists, see which insurers have the same rankings based on those qualifications. You can do a third ranking by combining price and service, probably adding up their numbers and see which one will have the lowest sum. The one with the lowest sum will be your choice for the company offering the best vehicle insurance in Oregon. For example, if Company A is number 1 on price and number 3 on service; it gets a total of 4. On the other hand, Company B is number 2 on price but number 1 on service; that means, Company B is the better between the two since the sum is only 3.

Gresham, OR

State laws differ so you will need to check with your state’s Department of Motor Vehicle agency, or similar entity. The state of Oregon should have a list of cars that are exempt from your state’s mandatory insurance requirement laws.

In Oregon there are certain cars, such as antique motor vehicles, farm tractors, farm trailers, motor assisted scooters, snowmobiles, mobility devices, and all-terrain vehicles, which are exempt from the mandatory insurance requirements.

Remember if you take the car that is exempt from auto insurance in your state to a different state to check their laws since mandatory insurance laws do very between states.

I have an Oregon automobile insurance question for you. I’m thinking of selling my old car and buying a new one. Yay! Can my old auto insurance policy extend to the new vehicle I’m going to purchase? I’m not going anywhere anyway, I’ll still be living here in Salem, OR. I hate paperwork.

Lisa

Salem, OR

Wow, a new car! That must be exciting. And I understand too well that it sucks to think about stuff like insurance when all you can think about is car colors! I’ll try my best to help you out. To start off, you don’t actually need to purchase new automotive insurance before buying a new car, and you don’t necessarily have to inform your insurance company beforehand. That would be a little too much like asking permission, and you should be able to buy that gorgeous baby whenever you want. Your old insurance policy will cover your new car, at least temporarily, and only an as-is basis. If, for instance, you only have liability coverage on your old vehicle, you’ll still have only liability coverage on the new. The problem there is if you’re borrowing money to finance the purchase, your bank will most likely require you to take out comprehensive coverage. In that case, you have to call your agent there in Salem, OR to add coverage.

Different insurance companies have different grace periods, too, for you to notify them of the purchase. If your time has elapsed, certain coverages may be removed. The upshot is though you don’t have to inform them first, you will eventually have to do so. I find it best to get the paperwork out of the way as soon as possible, so you can enjoy that ride the sooner.

Reader’s Question:

Are good grades really necessary to lower car insurance college student in Oregon?

Portland OR

Having good grades is a must if you want low rates for that car insurance college student. This means that if you’re not driving around, you should in one place only. That is the library driving those books. While the requirements vary between companies, a student who can get a grade average of B- or better can avail of discounts that will lower their premium rates.

Grades are not the only thing that can give a college student an insurance discount in Oregon. The location of the college is just as important. If the car covered by the policy will be located in a different city or state, then the premium payments can also differ. If the school is located in an urban area, then the premiums can again rise. If the school is within your area then maybe the student can commute. This can lower the rate but will depend on the terms of the policy. Some insurance companies will also lower their rates if the school is at least a hundred miles away.

If your son or daughter will be using the family car, then you can add them to your existing policy instead of getting them their own car insurance college student. What if you do? If you have a daughter then expect your premium to rise by 50%. If its a son, then its around 100%. This is additions are still cheaper. Ask your local state insurance on what the requirements are for a college student to be insured.

Whether they’ll be driving their own car or yours, it is important to make sure that they have insurance. If you let them drive without insurance, a lot things that can happen if they get involved in an accident. Money will probably be the last thing on your mind. So keep your children protected and get them car insurance college student.

Reader’s Question:

What should I do to get a low cost auto insurance in Oregon?

Christine

Eugene, OR

There are various traffic incidents that can set off a driver’s license suspension in Oregon. When a driver is suspended of his or her driving privileges, an SR22 insurance in Oregon is normally required for the suspension to be lifted. When a driver buys SR22 insurance from an auto insurance provider, the latter will file an SR22 certificate attesting that the driver is under their liability insurance coverage. The certificate of SR22 insurance should be kept in place for a minimum of 3 years or more.

An SR22 insurance is ideal for drivers with risky driving habits and consequently comes with a high cost. But worry no more for in this digital age, we could already obtain low SR22 insurance deals in just a click away. Comparing for SR22 insurance in Oregon has been made easier and more accessible through the use of the Internet. Almost every auto insurance industry in Oregon is offering competitive SR22 insurance rates for those drivers who are in dire need of it.

The advantage of using the Internet in finding for low cost SR22 insurance is that one can compare rates from any insurance provider in the state, saving much time and effort as opposed to visiting an auto insurance provider. Getting SR22 insurance quotes online would only take a few minutes. You simply have to log on to an insurance website and fill up their online form. After a few minutes you can now obtain several SR22 insurance quotes from different auto insurance providers.

Filing for an SR22 in Oregon is also possible online. In fact, most insurance companies prefer consumers who file for their SR22s on the web. In return, insurers give them discounts. So not only you save your time and effort, you are also able to save your money with the discounts.
